underbody oil bath (beach)

HI all
On our trip up noosa north shore last time, i noticed a place there will spray the under body of your rig with oil for $2.
My rodeo is no beauty queen and at 20 years of age, has decent rust in places anyway...
Would this still benafit the older cars as it would the newer ones as well?
What benafits are to be had by pulling and getting an oil down for a trip?

I'm guessing its the same principle of coating your body with lanolin/oil to prevent rust etc.

With all the extra salt that you pick up at the beach, the oil will help to protect the under body a bit better.

May also help to disperse any water that you drive through a little better... so may make it easier to clean off afterwards (so the salt doesnt dry and cake on like it usually does)

When I had my rocky I sprayed it with fish oil about a week before going to stockton. Sand then stuck to everything that had oil on it like crap to a blanket

So I'd reccomend doing it a fair while before you go.

Or do it up to a couple of days ahead and go for a long drive on a dusty dirt road. Then you get a nice layer of dust to seal it off rather than sand and salt.

How long ago did you get it sprayed at Noosa, I'm surprised they do it any more for environmental reasons. I didn't think they do it anymore at Rainbow. The single little drive thru car wash is now a big fancy deal with pivoting under sprays and fancy options for the wand sprayers etc.

Was told not to ever use this type of car wash as people use it mostly after there sprint on the beach and all you end up with is a very high pressure wash of salt blasting that was washed of there vehicle.

Best to fisholene the old girl at least weeks befor your trip to allow it to dry.

For the record the new one that is set up at Rainbow Beach does not use recycled water. Well at least not for the paying cars etc. The deal he has with the buses who use it for virtually free on the other hand is using all our recycled salt but that's not through pivoting pits. Bus guys probablydon't know their water is recycled but then again would they care.
