I had a similar issue with my NJ (94). Odometer was working but speedo wasn't. Pulled it out and cleaned up all the contacts on the head (NH-cable NJ-electronic) but still wasn't working. Was about to send the speedo head in for repair and it started working again. That was over 6 months ago and it's still going strong.

FYI there is nothing complicated about it at all.

When I bought my 92 it had a busted speedo cable to see if the cable is fine take of your speedo houseing then underneath the pasenger side going into transfer case undo the cable get some body to watch the cable inside on the dash while you get underneath and turn the cable if it turns inside it should be fine but if you have an NJ the setup is electrronic so none of this will mean anything but if you do have a cable you can buy an inner cable from auto parts stores for about $12 fit em and cut them to size fit the peg and insert back into the transfer case.
