Hi all,
I've just sold my SWB GU Patrol, and am looking at purchasing a '93 80 series.
I've used the search already (can never get it to work for some reason), but can't find info I'm after.
Really just need to know if the auto boxes are any good in these. Will be used to tow a race car every now and then, and off road use (running 35's)
Are the auto's reliable? Can they be modded like the Patrol units to give a manual lock up, or is gearing ok for offroad downhill? Will the gearing be ok with 35's?
Cheers,
Dave

80 series auto?

A 93 still has the A440 auto ( I think). The A440 will probably have problems with towing and pulling 35s, they get hot then blow up, ideally you would need to get a A442 which came out in the later models. If it has the A442 you will be good, still needs a big cooler and the mods you mentioned though

The 93 has the 442, if the dash has an economy/power switch and the tbar has a overdrive button it is a 442, the 440 has 123dnrp configuration and no electric buttons. The 442 is more reliable than the manual, they are 400,000km boxes.
Suits the t/d as they change at full boost, and 4th overdrive is 2200 at 110 kms as opposed to 2500 at 100 for the manual.
