GU TB45E what sort of engine life are guys getting?

I have never really payed too much attention to the petrol GU's but I have been without a patrol now for a couple of years. I do miss my TB42 shorty and also my RB30 GQ turbo.
The GU petrol 6's are getting pretty damn cheep but whilst I am searching all I can I cant seen to find out what sort of kays these motors are traveling. I really got frustrated with the TB42 (LPG) having to replace the head and six months later sort out a leaking head gasket. Im quite happy to buy a GU 4.5 and leave it on ULP, but are they just as prone to the head problems as the 4.2's?
I even sussed out the option of getting a GU 2.8, thank christ I test drove one first, these things seem to regularly send their owners broke.
I would hope that a well serviced example of the TB45e would manage 300,000 with little dramas. While im asking questions, do these engines mind LPG?
Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated

300,000k should be easy if well maintained. Kinda the petrol equivalent of the TD42 - reliable, slow and a bit thirsty for its performance(or lack of).
They go well on LPG, heads are less prone to failure than the TB42.
My TB45 had 238,000km on it when the #6 exhaust valve burnt out. LPG was fitted from new according to previous owner. No valve saver lube either.

Well thats it then, Im happy enough to get one between now and chrissy. Let me know if anyone has one for sale. Im going to Tassie next week with work and there is one with 114k but asking 24000, WTF. Im happy to look at it and in two months when it hasnt sold i will put the word on.
Were the 4.5 fitted with 265/70's or did they get a larger tyre?
Thanks for all your tips OL

They have a small oil pick up in the sump and if not serviced regularly (oil changes) they carbon up and loose oil pressure resulting in bearing failure.

I know this first hand Joel 3 spun bearings on crank, smashed oil pump, chewed out timing cover plus more.
3 grand later(with me pulling motor out and down) im on the road again

My Tb45 has 310000 now with LPG from new, i change the oil every 10000 and adjust valve clearances when it becomes noisy, i also keep the coolant in order. I give this engine hell!! The only thing i have replaced recently is the front main crank seal, cost about 10 bucks and an hour work with the right tools. No other work has been done ever. My friends have a 3 ltr diesel, blew up. His brother td42, damaged the head using after market turbo. Another friend a Tb48 has major electrical problems after converting to LPG. I think i have a winner with my TB45. I must also mention i drowned it in the river once, removed the plugs turned the key to pump out the water and then replaced the plugs and it started. No damage.

Hmmm. Just been researching these, as I've spotted a few for sale with low Ks and in good nick for $12-15k. (in Qld)
The alternative in that price range is the RD28T, but with higher Ks.
Given that my average around town driving will be less than 100Ks a fortnight and I'm wanting a comfortable tourer, for week end trips away (max 800ks) would one of these do me? I've read some threads here that are giving good and bad raps for the 4.5.
What sort of economy could I expect? LPG is a waste of time in NQ, (25-30% cheaper than ULP) so I wouldn't even think about converting it.
going on earlier threads, on petrol, 20/100 isnt uncommon, worse offroad

Hey Brunsy.
I have a TB42E which I race in winch challenges. Had 404 000k's on the clock when I put the AXT turbo kit on it. I have had a spare engine ready for when it popped, but it hasn't yet and it's been 2 years !! It's now done 414 000k's. 10 000 very hard k's !!! Torque 617 at 1500rpm at the wheels in 2wd, do the math in low range !!
Have fun no matter what !!
Scott.

Mine has just clicked over 335k, been on gas since 220k. Tappets need resetting fairly often but I just service it every 10k and it just keeps on going.
