manualised turbo 400
1st gear is longer then a 700 BUT you will probably be usining reduction gearing anyway.

2 speed powerglide
At least it wont break in a hurry. the 4L60e wont last as the torque kills em, the T700 is the older version of the box. A T400 might be ok and can be built pretty strong. Talk to Craigs Auto's in Sydney as they have built some awesome boxes for weird applications

a 400 will be more than ok, even in standard form its stronger than a built 700, let me now what prices u get from your way and parts used.

turbo 400.
get it built, full manual, good clutch packs and bands. it will be bulit proof.
iv got one behind a 1000hp big block and it loves life.
dont do burnouts in reverse, it will kill it straight away!

the nissan auto is prone to stripping the input shaft..... i was told about it and thought it was crap until mine with a V8 in front of it putting in FAR less power than an LS2 will, crapped itself

Don't you mean Nissan torque converters are prone to stripping the spline so when you do it you get the torque convertor strengthened. I Have run a Nissan auto behind a turboed, I/C TD42 runing 21psi doing comps and also run one behind a turboed VH45 that had 280 rwkw. The auto is plenty string enough but you do need to ensure the spline is reinforced in the TC.

i was told it was the spline on the input shaft that strips, and apparently that is what went in mine...... i didn't change it out. Just got another box, took it to a mechanic and paid them to do it. I didn't have the time...... and never saw the busted part. I know the torque converter lock up was piss weak in them too..... don't last very long.

when i was trying to decide the same thing... i spoke to a auto gearbox guy and told him what sort of work it would be doing and he basically told me stick to a manuel unless u want to spend massive bucks and get it rebuild often so i stuck with manuel...

How did you go about reinforcing the Tc ?
