GQ diff in 80

i hurd some were that some one made arms that had a dog leg in them so that a GQ housing will fit into an 80 series, my understanding is that the spring hats needed changing coss 80 series have smaller springs, and that the panhard mount might have needed changing but you didnt have to weld on new arm mounts.

i have looked on the net but cant find anything

dose any one know anything about this, if not can some one make some lol

I was down there two weeks ago and there was an 80 series their which had a GQ diff in the front fitted with a set of Dale's custom arms so I am certain that he does them.

I would just give Dale a call as he doesn't spend much time on here.

Or get onto 80UTE and get a Wally front housing made up...

GQ centre/pumpkin with 80 everything IIRC. That way you keep the spring/arm mounts, brakes, CV's etc.

i dont have a million dollers lol

i think there about 4 grand and you need to give him an 80 housing, 80 series CVs axels ect, a GQ housing and diff, all i would be able to sell out of it would be an 80 center with a locker.

going this way i can sell a breaced 80 series housing compleat with locker and 4 extra CVs

why are you looking at changing? 80 front diffs can be built stronger than GQ...

if you can remove your centre and axles, you can get somewhere else to build a tuff 80 centre for you...

then you can throw some Chromo-longfields in when you put it back together?

You would probably find getting the centre setup 'correctly' would cost less than slotting in a GQ front housing, when you inc rebuilding the GQ housing, welding spring hats, locker etc.

There are a handfull of threads on 80 front strength, and allot of good info here especially.

Here is a pic of my 80 running GU diffs and 2Dextreme arms.

Bought it like this so I can't tell you the costs involved.

i think its actually flexing a lil ray, the coil hats are in roughly the same spot but you gotta weld on new hats any way as the GU/GQ coils are different diamaters so there is no reason why you would fuck that up

How about you guys in the know write up a step by step tech thread on how to set up the 80 front diff properly? I know there'd be heaps of people on here with the skills to do the work if they were shown what is required and how to do it. Or post a link if there is a thread elsewhere?

Apart from the front diff center, i'd rather go the 80 front any day.

longfield super set
longfield hub gears
better bushes arrangement than nissan
good availability of gears and ratios from the states
truss it up and be aware of giving it poo in reverse, and voila' a pretty decent front end.
and a lot less faffing around
