7 seater was the maximum factory option for a series SWB.
3 across the front. 2x 2-seat side facing in rear.
The genuine 7-seat wagons came with sliding windows in the rear and a tropical roof. They are rare in OZ, but were sold.

Since they were sold that way originally then I don't see why not. Though when yoou have 7 people in an 88" there isn't room for much else.

Rear seats were always an option on swbs that were not station wagons. The requirement for seatbelts depends on the ADR type rules at the time the vehicle was first registered.
If your rego documentation (or previous documentation) does not list a seating capacity then you could simply put in the rear seats and no engineering is required. No seatbelts for 50s/60s versions either - not sure about later models as depends on ADRs.
If the documents only list the chassis number as a 3 seater than most likely engineering will be required with its associated red tape.
My 57 swb 88 station wagon always had rear seats as standard so will not be an issue when it gets back on the road.
