Hilux Front Shock Length ?

Post by Breaker Brother »

Been rebuilding the front end in my Lux,.....and doing properly this time

Braced the knuckles and added some beefy 1.25" shock mounts

I've Re-built my old springs and have directionally polished them, bevelled and chamfered the end of the leaves added open cinches
Image

I then bought some new 12" shocks which I thought would be fine as they were the longest I could fit
without cutting out the inner guards as I already have a 3" body lift

But....Image

I've put everything back together today and this is how it sits

At this hight off the ground a 33 won't even fit, if I stand on the hub it'll drop another 2-3"

For the record the front is 850mm off the ground

The new shocks are gunna be way to short to allow it to flex fully Image

What length shocks do you guys run with your leaf fronts

I used 14" bilsteins in the front of my lux. Ive got about 5" of uptravel and 9" down before the shock maxes out.

Have you checked the clearance of those knuckle gusset with the felts and wipers? Looks like they may need some grinding.

Yeah, they got clearanced with the die grinder I cut them to suit the wear marks on the swivel housing...felt sticks out a Smigin further

Bottom ones were fine though

Working on that one ;)

Although in saying that, these springs have done maybe 80-100,000 km already and have never had a torque rod. The truck they were originally in had a turbo 18RG with 35" claws and they've done maybe 60,000 km in this chassis with the V8 and 35s
