just use 3 batterys, i have done this so many times on the trail and it works great. Even fixed strangerovers d44 knuckle steer arm at xrcc and he competed in 2 more stages just fine...

This style of welding does work well, you can also get by with 2 batteries and a smaller electrode.

On board welding

Post by HSV Rangie »

For most people using 2-3 batteries would be quite adequete, I have used this method works very well. For the guys in comps and those that break a lot then any of the modified alterators (welders) would suffice. How many times have you broke something, probaly not very often. (Axles and CV'S dont count  )

In the past year I have used the battery welder over 10 times especially goin out playing with the outerlimits boys( we always go till we break $hit).
As for enough power we used 3 batteries at xrcc full penetration butt weld 35mm long 25mm thick used up 8 2.5mm rods and all the batteries had enough juice to start the respective rigs....

i had one on my GQ but the alt was only an 80 amp one so it was pretty crap, was enough to weld my spring mounts back on the chassis but i'm getting a 160 amp alt done before i fit it to the GU.
it also has a 240 volt a/c outlet for grinders, drills etc but trying to watch tv with the motor doing 3000 revs throughout the movie would piss me off :finger:
