td42 liner removal
td42 liner removal
i am currently rebuilding my diesel and am just curious to ways people have removed liners? im going to get a stepped plate turned up to sit inside the liner and grab about a mm at the bottom, then a frame over top and a long piece of all thread to pull it up. is thid the common way? i have also heard of running a bead of weld the length of the liner to shrink it a bit?

never pulled liners on a td42 but have done lots of truck engines.. detroit, gm, cummins ect.. I use a buff gun after i pull the head off and clean around the tops of the liner to get rid of any carbon around them. then we use a tool that expands inside the liner and winds the liner out. also the stepped plate idea works well with a threaded bar or a slide hammer set up can be good also. some older engines you can just undo the big ends and push the rods up and its enough to push the liner out too.
