Post by Hennels »

The engine doesnt start but Id didnt have time (or permission) to have a look at what was wrong with it.
This place is renown for being exceedingly expensive! Apparently the doors on that are worth $700 each :finger:

What do you guys recon for a price for this?

Regards
Henryu

He might sell it to you for 1k and then make about an extra 4k out of you in replacement parts, by the looks of it. What a dungheap. Your crazy for wanting such a POS. Just get 1 running and registered. It will work out way cheaper and less stress.

I just want a rolling chassis and cab. Im gonna do a conversion on it. Pretty much start from scratch.

Also bigboy, what specifically makes it a such POS? Then interior needs work sure, and the chassis is less than pretty but ill fix that up.

I mean Im gonna be replacing half the stuff in it anyway.

For a wrecker to sell bits he would get a bit but then not much as all body parts are clapped what can you sell a drum rear diff prob not lsd maybe the 4 million km gear box that prob needs a rebuild or the tractor motor which prob need att as well the interis stuffed just a ash tray will be around 50 bucks
so let him wreck it and get screwed down to zero $'s for trying to sell a pos
for a complete ute like that max would be 500
but what can you do with it spend another 3k to get it all mint
go by a liced one for 2500 or 3 u will find one and then go from there

From what I can see in those pics the cab and panels appear to be in good condition. But if he goes by what you are saying he just wasted 1500-2000 as all he wants is the cab and chassie.

Also if you think the Wrecker is going to do his ass by wrecking that out your kidding yourself. That will make twice what its worth "as is" if he wrecks it. Otherwise wreckers wouldnt wreck cars would they  Generally the only reason any wrecker will sell a complete car for less than they can wreck it, is for a quick turn over, No labour costs and no warranty issues. Wrecking cars is all about turning over as quick as possible. Not having them sitting around taking up valuable room and eating away at your profit.

Well firstly. You never said you only wanted the rolling chassi for a conversion. Ive done up heaps of 4x4's and thought I got a few bargains. But all the little stuff adds up and adds up (flogged out, ceased, broken or missing bits) and works out the same if not more than 1 you buy complete, hassle free and drives nice.

So I would go the other way if I where you. Get 1 complete (everything including the engine works well) and sell off all the bits you dont need.

Whats makes it a POS. Is by looking at the pics. The faded paint, rusty springs and chassi and ripped up seats. You can tell its been sitting in the weather for along time and abused. Its been sitting on open ground where the moisture from the ground can get at it the underneath of it. Maybe a paddock or something. Instantly means all new seals through are shot, wirring??? rust?? Youd better keep a few sets of easy outs handy aswell...

Ok thanks. Very helpful. If I was to get a working one and I sell the parts, which ones would I sell and how much. The engine out of a 20 year old 75 series with 300K on the clock cant be worth too much.
Down here there are never things for about 6K that runs though. They are all in QLD and NSW.

Jesus, there are plenty of 75's I've seen for around $4k in running condition up here in QLD. I

bought a modified one of Ebay with a fair bit of goodies for $950, I kept the newly reconditioned gearbox, drop shackles, starter, alternator, aircon, injector pump, and a host of smaller bits and sold the rest on ebay and to mates and made almost $4k all up. If you don't think a wreckers going to do the same, but with higher prices, you can see their profit margin on a vehicle like that. You would be surprised at what little bits and pieces people want.

There was one on Evilbay that I was going to buy around the same time as this one in perfect condition, just missing motor/box, dual fuel, scrub bars etc for $1800 buy now. Auctions are a good place for them as well, just make sure you check them for the all important rust around the windscreen surround and door jambs.
If its not upside down and on fire, I'm not trying hard enough.......

Depends what parts you need for your conversion... But having a whole working 75 will save you alot of time and headaches. If you do need another bit that you hadnt planned on. Its their and you dont have to go hunting for it. Wreckers are a business and frankly, ive been ripped off a few times but had no other choice. Thats what they count on. So what ever bits you dont need just ring wreckers to get their price and advertise for half that and they will sell quick and people will be most greatful that they didnt have to buy from a wrecker. Youll still get back a hell of alot of money on your original purchase.

People need all kinds of bits how ever how small. Some are meaningless to you, but hard to source for others.

How much is a brand new door shell from toyota?? if people pay this sort of cash for a door they really stupid and just fuelling this sort of stupid pricing

given your location and what you say about how hard they are to come by there i would just work out how much the freight would be from NSW or QLD then add that onto the cost of one in those locations

personally i would feel like i had been violated if i payed more than 1000 but you have other factors to concider but 500 would cover the freight from some where else so maybe 1500

that will cover the cost of his 2 doors :finger:

any more than that u just have to walk away dont fall in love just because its easy and infront of u

Yeh I was having a look at postage. It was a bout 5-600$ from Brissy to Adelaide. Which is good.

As for the last part, thats good advice, so its probable that I wont be getting it cause the dude is a prick.

Also i got a pick of the engine bay. Its only done 270,00 kms so it cant be too bad, apparently a mechanic hasnt looked at it so the engine could get going if I have a little fiddle and add replace parts. but then again it is in the wreckers after all....

Got to agree with buying a running roadworthy truck straight up & then take it apart..
As for vehicles interstate i have bought a few motorbikes interstate & loved catching a plane from Melb to sydney then riding it back same goes for cars just make a weekend trip of it for fun....

If its regoed & running its saves you transporting it fuckin around with a rolling chassis... could try a broker also they will find you one or a mate interstate...

$1800 for a bare door.

Problem is that its hard to find a door thats straight and rust free, hence the prices. There isn't as many 75's wrecked out as hilux's/Patrols etc hence the prices that doors/panels command. Good insurance spec (minor dings) doors are sold up here for between $700 -$900 a door. Although that said I have two easily fixable doors here off a 75 troopy that I cant even get a bottle of bourbon each for lol. I plan on using fiberglass outers on mine shortly as I'm sure I am just going to smash the doors again out bush and fiberglass is realitivly easy to fix rather than buying doors.

World of supply and demand
man we need to get those lill guys in Thailand making them
brand new ones for my hilux were 160 bucks each its not worth fixing them
its good i have very little care or regard for my doors
and because of that i am not worring about them while i am wheeling
so i dont lose concentartion on driving and then bend them even less

the trucks yellow
90% are white so 90 % of the wreckers customers that are chasing a panel will find it easier to just get a white one and save painting so the body parts are going to be cheaper /worth less
He wont be fckued wrecking it cos not many people need yellow parts not many people want a clapped out tractor motor nor a high km gear box or a drum to drum rear non lsd diff, the int neads door trims seats dash bit
It worth nothing but 500 as is
