Tug of war now problems

Post by sierrafreak »

I know this is supposed to be in the Isuzu/gmh section but thought it might help me in here as not many people would visit that section often(guessing)

A friend of mine has an RA rodeo and was playing tug of war with his brothers hilux.

Now when he accelerates the rear end seems to shift left and then when backs off it straightens back up.

Do they have a panhard rod that could be bent?
Or are they just held by the U-bolts on the leaf springs

Also could he have damaged the bushes in the springs thus causing this problem??

Any help would be much appreciated....

no they were playing tug of war of tow bars.

Where is the centre pin?
If what you are refering to as the locating pin on spring pack to diff that is not damaged at all still in same place.

Come to think of it when my wheel bearings were stuffed in the front diff of my zook it used to do that hmmmm i wonder

But i wouldnt think that would be it could it?

Maybe he's just wanting to die sideways?

Seriously, have a good look underneath. Check the suspension linkages and their bushes, as well as the springs, shackles etc. etc. and next time, just get them out and measure them. More humiliating maybe, but it's a lot safer and cheaper!

i don't think people are really having a go at you. but youre asking us to try help out f/wick mates doing silly things, thats going to come with some degree of ridicule.

The only thing I can think of is a broken locator pin/bolt, broken u-bolt or severly warped and damaged spring...assuming a shackle hasn't come apart completely (which would be obvious).

The broken locator pin might not nessecarily be apparent at first glance - I'd be pulling the spring pack apart. Is there no sign of
components shifting? (scratching on bottom of leaf pack etc?)

edit. Just had another read. It could be that he's made a mess of the rear diff oran inner axle/hub, essentially converting to one wheel drive. This would cause the car to pull one way or the other on acceleration. Jack upthe rear and spin some wheels - I'm betting something is iffy

Does it have one shock facing the front and the other facing the rear ? It might just be the dampening action of the opposing shocks on the axle??

Kiwibacon asked who won.

Next time try raging bulls. Nudge both vehicles up to each other, bullbars to bullbars. Then accelerate, see who wins that one. Alcohol is optional but its the only logical way to settle a whos pencils bigger arguement when suffering from brotherly penis envy

If the locker was in before the EVENT,
then I would suspect a broken left axle could be the reason??

cheers

happened to my mates troopy when U-bolt was loose and rear steering from the twisting force.

Make sure all is tight nor broken at spring plate. So there can be no twisting movement in the diff.
At first I thought it was a sea anemone, upon closer inspection I realised it was a funky ball of tits from outer space.

It's a two part warranty

Pt.1 concrete warranty, once you drive it off their or the installers concrete driveway, if it breaks it's your fault :D

Pt.2 concrete warranty, once you walk down their concrete path back to your car to take it home and install it, if it breaks it's your fault :D

He brought it round the other day took a 30 second look at it found problem straight away!

As i said i was thinking front end as when wheel bearings were gone in my zook did similar thing..

So therefore when problems are in the rear end of vehicle doesnt necessarily mean its broken in the rear end

Funny how profesionals had it on hoist for a day and another lot with it for half a day and couldnt find it.

Lay on ground slide under front look for about 10 seconds work out what it could be then realise i was right.

the steering rack on a rodeo is a sh!t design the D bracket on lh side bent up-wards and was moving the front wheel in and out as it went up and down cause rear end to sway left and right over bumps.

Pays to look at something before asking others.

Thanks for the help though.

Ps the locker was not in when he done this and niether won they just dug holes and sat there.
