Fuel starvation 80 series 1hz

Ok here are the symptoms 80 series cruiser with a 1hz. Motor takes a long time to crank over and start. Have replaced the fuel lines under the bonnet and swapped over the fuel filter head for a known good one. Blown out the fuel lines and there is fuel in the tank. Its not the injector pump as it runs sweet as a nut when fuel is put up to it.

It sounds like there is either a heap of crap floating in the tanks or a leak in the fuel like somewhere sucking in air.

Anyone got any idea what may be the problem

Follow the lines from the tank to the pump. Any wet patches anywhere?

Also have a look at the seperator. Make sure everything is tight.

Can you replace any of the flexible lines with clear hose while you are looking for the fault, makes it easier to see which point has air bubbles.

don't forget the main/sub tank valves.

Does it happen when the motor is hot or cold or both? If only when hot it could still be a pump problem.

I'll be watching this thread with interest as I have similar problems, though not always - often hard to start when cold or hot. 1HZ with DTS turbo kit. Will be starting down the replacing fuel hoses path soon.

Have been told by a local diesel bloke before that you can get problematic tank switching solonoids that allow air to be drawn in.
Might be worth checking, bypass it and see what happens

Check the sub tank and main tank valve. Mine was block and
full of shit from the sub tank
the sub tank ran dry then the air will come though
so I place a fuel filiter in front of the valve

Misko - did you clean your valve or have to replace it?

May have leaking injectors letting line pressure after the pump bleed into cylinders. No visual signs of a leak but you have to get air out before engine will fire. Next time it wont start put your foot flat on the gas and crank it over until it fires. This is the best way to bleed the system without cracking lines.
