as the title says, im hoping that some people can post up pics of king pin bearings for me. also wheel bearings.
im about to open the the hub/axle and i dont know what im looking at in there, so if i had a pic of what they should look like, then i could work out if mine are any good or not.
i searched and checked through owners manuals, but couldnt find anything on them.

I doubt a pic is going to help you work out if they are any good, besides I take it you are pulling it down because something is not right so for the cost of the kit just do the lot, $200 odd will supply you with the wheel bearings, wiper seals, king pin bearings lock tabs etc, just do the lot. Take note of how you pull it apart, but they are pretty self explanitory

CBC do kits for my solid axle hilux. it is from memory 100 buck or so. with bearings seals everything u need. just need to get grease.

I paid $100 for my swivel hub kit from my local statewide bearing supplies.
Good kit, toyo bearings (seem to be the best recommended), all seals etc.

You're missing the point. I buy the swivel hub with king pin bearing kit for $100 too. I'm asking about robb91's comment which I interptret to read he buys a kit that does swivel hubs and wheel bearings for both sides for $100. yes i am taking it apart because of a problem, the front end has a wobble in it, it starts about 40kms and up. its been going on for about 2-3 weeks now, the lux hasnt moved in a week because of it.
ive checked tyre pressures in front, LHS was 31psi, RHS was 42, so i dropped the RHS down to 31psi to match, didnt fix it,
i jacked up the front end and checked everywhere for any play or signs of wear, apart from the draglink looking worn, everything looked fine to me, i got the missus to wobble the steering wheel while i looked around the steering, etc.
i replaced the draglink, didnt fix it,
i got wheel alignment done, it was pretty good anyway, still didnt fix it,
the guys that did the alignment said its probably the steering damper.
the steering damper thats on my lux now is the factory yota one that came out in 1986, im going to replace that, if that wont fix it then ill be looking at the steering box.
i did some research here on outers and read that worn king pin bearings/ wheel bearings out of adjustment can cause wobbles, and ive got spare complete front and rear diffs/axles in the shed, the plan is to put the spare centres in my lux(4.8) and rebuild axles with all new seals, bearings, etc at the same time.

Just my opinion but I think you are wasting your time if you intend on pulling your front end down only to put used bearings through it. New stuff or don't bother. You really need to get someone who knows what they are doing (sounds like you're not sure) to check for wheel bearing/kingpin freeplay to see if thats really your problem. You got a wheel alignment but did you have the front tyres balanced? the tyres on now are the 35s, they were balanced only a couple of months ago when they fitted to rims.
im going to put the 31s back on today and see if that does anything to fix the wobble.
im going to put all new bearings/seals through the front axle when i swap the centres, but cant afford to right now. thats why im thinking of using the spares just to keep the lux on the road.

Its also be likely that the front spring bushes are stuffed, if they are poly then they are almost definatly on the way out, replace the front spring bushes with GENUINE RUBBER, I would be doing that before pulling the front end apart. Poly is great in road and race cars, it is shit in 4wdrives. go down to the local toyo dealer and get a couple of OE rubber bushes and throw them in before you start pulling the front end apart

ill jack the front end up and check wheel bearings via the wheel wobble, and check bushes, i assuming if the front bushes are gone then i should be replacing all b ushes at same time

jack it up and try to wobble the wheel.
I would almost definitely say it will be worn/loose bearings. you will feel a slight movement and here it going clunk clunk lightly as it reaches the end of the play.
if its just a loose/worn wheel bearing you could just put some fresh gease in and tighten them properly as a temp fix until you do the full kit.
Its worth learning to do this! running 35's on a lux you will probably end up having to do it out on a track somewhere anyway.

Having said that my 89 model had stuffed kingpins first time i pulled mine down so it would be worth doing the full kit.

i just got home from work, gotta love double time sundays .
anyway, i jacked up the front end today before i got called in, i checked drivers side first, side to side wobble but that was draglink moving, no up and down movement, then i checked passenger side, side to side there but again thats just steering, there is up/down movement in passenger side front, it actually sounded like a wheel nut was loose, which it wasnt, so im guessing thats the culprit.
now because i was on double time tonight, i can now afford to get the front end rebuild kit and rebuild the axle, and ill swap centres at the same time.
one more question though, when i buy the front axle rebuild kit, what should be in the kit?? what else will i need?? the last thing i want is to buy a rebuild kit and not have enough bits to do the job and find out halfway through the job that i need more bits.

I have one you can borrow if you need it. They really are worth having though, especially when you're wheeling. A swivel hub rebuild/wheel bearing swap is not difficult at all with a bit mechanical nous and common sense. Just take your time, if you're not confident, I find that buying a bunch of sandwich bags and a roll of masking tape and bagging/labelling everything helps a lot when it comes to putting it all back together and keeping it all from getting lost.
