longfield superset or dirty 30's

Post by troopy94 »

Hi I just wanted to ask what people's opinions on what would be the better axle and cv for a rear steer application in a zook truggy.I will be using a 60 series diff and running 38 inch swampers

You will get more lock to lock with Longfields. Rhett is running Dirty 30's front and rear with his Zuk buggy with no drama's. He doesn't go easy on it either. Did I mention that it is NOS'ed as well. :D

Thanks for the reply, I have been watching Rhett's build closely and that is where I got alot of my inspiration from.I cant see the rear axle needing much more than 30 degrees of steering lock but what I'm really keen to find out is more reliable when used in anger

Wait untill after TT 2010 and see then. I'm sure he will give them a flogging. There will be no holding back. He is looking at getting a spare set just incase.

I would go the longs! I have seen the dirty 30s are a hell of alot cheaper at the moment. Do the dirtys have a warrenty if so how are they with honouring it? I know for a fact that longs is brilliant with there warrenty. Also longs concentrate on 1/2 particuler parts not a whole catalogue of anything they can put a price on.

When I had last talked to tash at locktup she did not know of a set of dirtys that had broken in Aust yet. So its a bit hard to know how they are with warranty ;) . I know of a lot of longs that have broken but they have been around for a lot longer.
Dirtys have a no questions asked lifetime warranty and you don't need a set of hub flanges, they are also considerably cheaper. You buy what you think is a smart thing. And yes I have teated mine with anger and they have survived so far.
Its a wheelbase thing

I'm sure that the dirty 30's have life time same as Long's and Locktup will always help out I'm sure if bought through them. Check with Cris from Locktup and double check with them. I'm sure that plenty of USA guys are running the dirty 30's.

Im leaning towards the dirty 30's not so much for the price difference but for the fact I wasnt planning on running flanges but instead I was thinking of just using the chromoly hub gears. The reason behind running hubs on the rear was so that I could unlock the rear hubs and then do a front dig or unlock front and rear on the same side then while applying the brakes I can skid steer like a bobcat.

Lol your gunna get out and lock and unlock hubs to dig or burn!
Plus you dont need to run drive flanges with longs but most do because if the free wheelin hub lets go and it does it usually strips the spline of the cv and bobby wont warrant it if this is the case prob the same with the dirty's i would imagine.

You will do that once then you will get over getting in and out of ya car to do that. Front dig works better when both wheels are locked anyway.

I was thinking that it would be the navvies job to do the unlocking and I thought they were still warranted as long as you used the chromoly hub gears

That's gold

Too bad its too big for a sig line

Disconnects are for digging. Use flanges and not free wheelers. And listen to the guys who have done it before.

hey Jayson they don't make the D30's for the 60 series as yet mate. So your only option is the longs.
