Nj using water

Post by deb_daz »

Me agian just thought I would share with you all the dramas I have just been thru with my Nj using water.
It started with it just using about 1ltr or 2ltr over about a week. But I went out one morning to go up the street and I had only gone about 1/2 klm and it boiled.Came home and it was doing the chunka chunka noise.I waited till it called and took the radiator cap off and it nearly blew it thru the roof.I touched the top tank on the radiator and it was cold to touch and the bottom hose was hot as.I thought it was the thermostat. After getting over the shock of buying that it set me back $139 unbelieveable.Put it in and it was fine for a week. But then the ominous green puddle of doom reappeared under the front.I put in the shop and they could not find aleak and even when they put the pressure tester on it,still no leak.Took it home and again it was fine for a few days but again the green was on the ground.Took it to a different machanic and to cut a long story shorter he found the pipe at t he back of motor was corroded and leaking.thought thaey had it fixed put the pressure tester on it and it was fine.Took it for a drive, let it run with the air con on,did everything with it not leak.Brought it home and the very next day it was leaking once again.Took it back and they pulled it all down again and this time found the pipe from the back of the water pump to the back of the motor was too corroded thru.replaced that and so far so good no leaks. But he simply could not explain why one day it was fine and the next would not hold water at all.It was leaking that bad that I was pouring it in the radiator and it was running out on the ground. The next day all the tests were done on it and nothing.I did take it to another mechanic prior to my usual one I go to and he tried to tell me that the green coolant goes gluggy (thick) and it fills the leaks holes up and stops it from leaking.A little bit of (B..S).
But I will keep you informed on my progress.Just thought I would share with you.Maybe you folk have some idea why it leaks one day and the next it wont.
Thanks

When they "fix" the leak, do they put in new antifreeze? Ethylene glycol (antifreeze) is wonderful stuff for finding leaks you didn't know you had. It sounds as if your antifreeze was really stuffed - it had lost its anti-corrosion properties. Lots of places had corroded up. It will hold for one or two days, then find another place to leak. The next place will probably be a heater hose or even the heater itself...
