just bought a feroza went up the beach on the weekend 4wd didnt seam to work i got stuck a few times.. the back wheels just seam to dig holes and sink the back end into the sand
i turned the front hubs to lock and put it in 4wd the light on the dash came on but i dont think it was in 4wd .. i let the tyres down to 15psi
is there a trick to geting it into 4wd or is that all i should have to do
is there any easy way to test if its in 4wd

As long as the front hubs are engaged and you have selected 4h or 4l you should be in 4x4.
If you were already stuck then it may not have been able to engage. Best way is to go to some dirt somewhere, engage 4x4 high with the front hubs locked (worth double checking... it is easy to accidentaly find you have just unlocked them instead of locking them...)
Turn a tight circle slowly on the dirt and you should hear in the driveline the extra traction as the front wheels are forced to turn faster than the rear. DON't do this on a high traction surface like bitumen or concrete

If it still doesnt work, make sure the front driveshaft is there, and that when you select 4H you should hear a CLONK as it moves the shift fork which connects to the chain-drive. Might have a missing or broken chain, mine before rebuild had no 4WD because of a broken chain (and failed bearings... but they just caused noise).
The light on the dash is switched by the selector rod, so if the light is coming on then the box IS selecting properly, but whether the hubs and chain are OK is what'll make it go, or not.
Just thinking, the only other thing that could stop it is a broken E-pin (circlip) which would allow the rod to "select", but not move the actual shift fork (there are 2 e-clips for each shift fork, two forks in the box - if one is broken or slipped out, it will not move the fork and not select properly).

Another possibility is the one of the front hubs is not engaging. If they haven't been used in awhile they can get sticky and not engage even when turned.
If both aren't actually locked then there's no front drive.....
Jack up each front wheel one at a time and see that they turn when unlocked and don't when locked.
They are simple to take apart. clean and re grease - so IMO worth doing anyway.

ok jacked it up locked in hubs spin the drives side wheel the axle goes round but when i spin the other wheel the axle on that side dont go round so does that mean the hub is not working ???
what do i do to clean them out just un bolt them degrease them regrease them and bolt them back on ??????

Bingo - always do the simplest and most obvious checks first !
IIRC there a 6 cap screws holding the black cover ( the bit with the rotary selector on ). Remove these and the top of the unit will slide off with the spring / and sliding internal spline. No need to remove the hub body - the larger cap screws on the hub.
Just BE careful to note how it all comes apart - especially the orientation of the spline/cover etc.
Give it a good clean out and re grease - very straightforward.
