RD28 Fuel adjustments.
RD28 Fuel adjustments.
Gday, I have a GQ with the 2.8, 120ks, has custom dump pipe and boost has been set to 14psi. I was wondering what a safe amount of fuel can be added via the screw at the back of the pump, maybe a quarter of a turn? Also what are the advantages of changing the fuel adjuster under the compensator plate? I had a 4.2 and was comfortable with adjusting fuel on that, but can't seem to find any exact info on this little temperamental motor.
I did mine by just turning it up a little bit at a time, about an 1/8th until i was happy with it.
Took it for a run after each tune to check the EGT's and see if it was blowing black smoke.
Originally i probably turn it up about a 1/4 of a turn, and then after i fitted the intercooler i turned it up another 1/4. The temps remained good (under 500) and only blew a bit of black smoke around idle.

'96 GQ Wagon, RD28T @ 13psi and now Intercooled, 2 3/4" straight through, 2.5" + 2" Lift, 33's, front detriot locker, 12,000lb winch, snorkel, etc...
Both times i turned the fuel up it made a significant different. Boost comes on a lot quicker, and turbo response is a lot better (the little thing screams its head off now )
It also gave it more power down low and a lot better performance through the revs.
Its a lot better than in its stock form.
I wouldnt hesitate to do it again.
Have fun
