hello guy
i am in the hunt for a lift for my lwb gq. just wondering what shocks and springs people use.
i will be putting 35s on and want around 4inch lift.
is it best to do body and springs or just 4inch springs
has people tired the ironman kits? what are they like?

i own a GQ lwb, on 33's, i use 4"king springs, 100mm extended dobinson shocks, after market adjustable panard rods to bring it back in line, 4" drop boxs and last off extended brake lines.
it drove like a bath tub at first, but with the drop boxs it drives like standard, it flexs up really well and its very progresive.
i'm very happy so far and it looks tuff without being over-kill.
plus the wife is still happy to climb in & out of it, and drive down the street.

i have 4inch suspension and 2 inch body i like it alot every arm/panhard is adjustable and bbm drop radius arms up front. the rear still tucks rite up and touches the inside of the body and drives well on the road. But i wouldnt advise a 4inch suspension lift unless you can afford the extra stuff to get it all back inline not just coils and shocks.

I've got 4" in my wagon too. A lot of people miss what big lux mentioned - its not just springs and shocks, there's a stack of extra parts needed to do it properly. EDIT: Should also tell you what i have-
- Procomp springs (soft)
- Procomp shocks (soft)
- Superior drop boxes
- Top secret Suspension Stuff flexy radius arm bushes
- Extended brake lines
- Snake Racing rock rod
- Adjustable panhards (dont kow what brand - they're blue)
- HD rear lower draglinks (dont know what brand - they're blue too!)
- Tuff Dog HD steering damper, non-adjustable

i roll 4 inch spring, 2 inch body. Have superior panhards dropboxes etc.
Shocks and coils are efs. reckon there pretty good.
Was originally contemplating bigger lift but this combination seems to be a great compromise between articulation and handling because its my daily drive.
Found that i can get good flex from a 4 inch lift,
(longer shocks/flexycoils/dropout cones can help) and body lift gives the extra room for 35's to do their thing.

I've got 5-6" flexy coils, pro comp shocks, adjustable panhards F&R, Castor plates, extended brake lines. No sway bars. I run 37" boggers with rear qaurters chopped and front guards trimmed. Im very happy how it handles on the road. But my old 3" flexy coil lift was very good aswell.

If you're gonna run 35's and drive hard, then you're gonna need to do a body lift or extend your bumpstops a heap,, and that's regardless of how much suspension lift you have or how much you cut your gaurds.
If you're gonna just crawl and not hit obstacles hard then you can probably live with the rubbing and just do the suspension.
Don't believe these clowns who say "i run 35's with 3 inch spring and a gaurd chop", because with that set up, if you jump your Patrol and land hard, you will smash your front tyres into the inner arch's.
For "spirited" driving i think a 3-4 inch lift is ideal.
I run 3in lift with extended bump stop at the rear and spaced front. I run 35/10.5/15 Simex pede's with this setup fine......but then I don't launch over everything I try crawling.....and if that fails and too much right boot is called into action the winch comes out.....
Miles of suspension looks great but lifting a wheel doesn't matter all that much when you have lockers at the flick of a switch....

4+2 for the girl and 4+2 or 6+2 on mine. All depends on terrain and driving style. Everything needs looking at too, more than what was listed above too.
