hey ive got a gu 2.8tdi wagon with a 3inch exhaust and k&n filter with plans of a rapid chip, at the moment im running bfg muddies 305/70 r16 (33's) but would love a set of either bfg krawlers or maxxis creepys the only problem is these tyres seem to have a minimum size of 35 inch so my question is does anyone run 35s on there 2.8 and if so how does it go especialy off road. oh yeah ive got a 4inch lift aswell so no worrys with clearance etc just worried about lack of torque up big hills.

two very expensive but awesome tires.. how much road driving will u be doing because they are more comp spec tyres..

could change the diff ratios?
young and doesnt know any better, thats my excuse any way.

they are both a very heavy tyre that will kill the 2.8's power..

we ran 35 mtrs on my old mans gu back in the day when it was a 2.8, stock exhaust, it went alright, little underpowered off the line but once moving it was fine even towing the camper,
we did have rockhoppers for low range work,

Creepys are cheaper than most 35inch radials, krawlers are bloody expensive.

one of action mags latest storys was on after market gu's. they said -without saying- that 2.8's are shit... to under powered for the weight of the vehicle and therefore have a limited life span... having driven around and been on plenty of trips with my uncle, a proud owner of a 2.8 gu i believe this to be true.
action and my uncle did all there test running 31's... so with 35's....??? ill leave it to you...

i got a GU 2.8 pushing 35s daily no problems.a bit slow.i had the boost wound up 2 13PSI and fuel pump as well.the only problem i have is in low range the crawl is to fast. need rock-hopper reductions.thats my 2 cents

thanks for the help lots of people say the 2.8 is slow and what not, but ive suprised alot of people with mine low down torque seems to be more the problem. im probably borrowing a mates 35 creepys this weekend and heading up to the glass house so ill see how it goes. i dont think i would run them all the time probably just when i go out with my more serious mates. also mad dog 79 have you got a chip if so was it worth it? looking into a rapid chip atm.

A mate in our 4WD Club had a 2.8TD GQ and it was a slug, despite the turbo and fuel being wound up it still had enough trouble turning 33's off road up hill, the only way he managed to get up hill that others with 4.2L's were getting up was to take a huge running start and keep on the throttle all the way up, if it ran out of puff he was screwed, and no amount of slipping the clutch would help
