Diff Chatter....

Post by S.CoXy »

Am in the middle of doing a flexy leaf conversion on my hilux with a turbo 4y and am at the stage of working our the "Stopping the leaf warp" sysytem, looking at single trac bar system they have on the rock crawlers but am wondering if this will also stop diff chatter as if found on high powered road cars with leaf...? Or am is it posible to run a duel trac bar as in before mentioned to stop this as well????

Mines custom made by the guy at SJ Performance, cant remember cost, but it wasnt cheap. Best to get a quote =)

I've since lopped off the lower mount holes too, so clearance isnt an issue (even though i never hit them).

i have this setup (adjustable caltracs) on my escort and work great at stoppin tramp / axle wrap and can even be preloaded to get car to launch even and straight ($700 for the pair). although i have never had thi setup on flexi 4bi could only imagine it would bind up on flex. my front bushes were replaced with a solid ally bush to stop flex in the rubber therefore the preload/finetune. also they hang pretty low imo. im in the process off doin ifs to rears with remove leaves to my lux but am steering towards the superior track bar kit for $450, and imo is designed for 4x4ing unlike the drag inspired caltracs/oz tracs. mick

mine doesnt hang any lower than SPUA leaves and u-bolts, and its still very close to the rim - i've not hit it yet.

As for binding - because of its design, it doesnt bind... as the leaf compresses it gets shorter and the shackle pivots stopping it from binding.

I think its a brilliant setup perfectly suited for offroad. The ladder style bars that go from centre of diff to a chassis mounted shackle dont move in the same arc as the diff and leaves as theyre an independent linkage, and hence are very prone to binding or tearing themselves apart.

Theres a MASSIVE thread on trac bars where this has all been discussed before though =)
