the title just about says it im lookin at joining a club, i've looked at clubs, and am confussed because alot give a very broad spectrum of what there interests are,
im based in greensborough, vic north east
im mostly interested in daily trips pretty hard stuff
with the occasional week end away
and the possability that the club would have a property would be great also.

this is a question i have thought about too, i am intrested in the same stuff as you mate, and untill recently i was baseed in greensy too. im not too far from there now though.
one way to go about it is working out how to form your own club, but then you would also have to be pretty switched on so that you could work out all the details, as i am sure there are very many thing to think about in regards to it

Im a full member of the CCJC (Cross Country Jeep Club) which is a family biased multivehicle based club (only has jeep in title as it was established after WWII when the ex army jeeps were plentiful), based in North Balwyn.
We run all types of trips from hardcore weekends to basic touring. If youre interested in the club, we will have a stand at Wandin this weekend, ill prob be manning the Sunday with my zook.
From my experience (ive only been there a year and bit) its a pretty laid back freindly club with none of the usual political bs.

Nissan Patrol Club NSW
To bad you are not in NSW (Sydney) I belong to a great club. There is lots to do from Mild to WILD. The members are very friendly and the trips members put on are heaps of fun. If anyone else is reading this thread and in the Sydney area check out the web page, but don't base all your thoughts on it as it needs work. Come to a couple of meetings and see what we get up to.

Sometimes it is hard to find the right club, some seem keen but never run trips, some are single make BS snobs, some are full of political infighting and bitching......
But some are quite good..... people actually interested in getting out there and wheeling with a good range of trips and not dependant on the same people to run trips all the time.
Most clubs will allow you to attend a few meetings, even go on a trip first to check it out before joining.

I reckon you're better off getting on internet forums and going on their trips and getting to know people that way. If you find a group that you regularly wheel with and they belong to a club, then you should join their club, rather than shelling out at least $60 a year for the privelege of club hassles.

2. the bigger the club the bigger the politics and bureaucracy. One club I know of has spent weeks sorting out where their meeting point for trips will be. One member said it's too dangerous (Maccas next to a busy intersection) getting slow moving 4wds going so then it's gone to some committee within the club to decide. I mean how hard can it be?
As the club gets bigger, it goes down the road of clubs within the club and then you're just dealing with problem 1. This is especially the case with the young guys with old patrols modded to the max who want to do the hard stuff all the time vs the older guys with the mildly lifted pajs and camper trailers.
3. they never seem to run regular trips. I know of one club that hadn't run a trip for a number of months and then at the last minute canned a future planned 4wd night drive and changed it to a trivia night. I mean yeah the social side is important but you're not joining a 4wd club to go ten pin bowling or sit around at the pub and waste time.
I know it sounds like a lot of club bashing and don't get me wrong, there are benefits of being in a club. But at the end of the day, the way I see it is all I want to do is wheel and all that takes is a date and a time and a place.

However, back to your initial enquiry, I found the best way to do the type of trips you want to do is to do so through forums such as this one. I went on some FANTASTIC Outer's trips to Ormeau a few years ago and also a couple to the power line tracks just north of Caboolture. The trick is to find a group of guys (and/or gals!!) who live within a reasonable distance of a destination with challenging tracks that at least one person knows fairly well.
Use the 'Trips and Tracks' forum to this end and, depending on where you live of course, you should have some success!!

Im with the comments above. I joined a club which had good people init but also some not so good. Because i wheel and older Hilux that suits me fine i found that a certain core of people thought that it shouldnt be seen with there flash all the fruit 4x4s one dude even told me my truck was a heap lol. Anyway i met some guys at a new job i started at and then my neighbour had mates that had 4bys and now we just all hook up have a day of laughs and good times and then usually head back to someones house for a Beer and Barby. Its really good just hook up make a plan and go for it. simple

i agree with talking to the boys off of here about doing tripps with them, i had a few blokes that lived out my way i was chatty with, but whom none of them i actualy ever got to wheel, no trips were planned then my truck died so i couldnt wheel( i am one of them people who dosent like to go wheeling if i cant drive my car) how ever i think i would now if i had the day free.
also i think the trouble i am going to have now is i work tuesday to saturday 1230 pm till 9 pm, so i only have one day that matches up with nearly everyone else.

There was a CCJC group having lunch there about 4-5 vehicles and one of them was a zook and I was having achat to the driver who was complaining about getting overtaken by a truck on the way up!
