Broken tensioner

Post by benmgsr »

Gday all,

After my weekend away 4wd'ing, (in my '86 BJ74, 13BT) there was a strange 'whiney' noise coming from my engine. After washing all the dirt off, i found the tensioner pulley for the power steering had sort of buckled to one side an was on an angle. The belt is half worn away and i dont know how i did approx 6-8hrs with it like this.....

Anyone know if there is a good replacement for these or has anyone got one lying around? or is it straight to TOYOTA?

Thanks

It might just be a collapsed bearing. If the pulley itself is not damaged you might be able to press out the bearing and get the number off it for a replacement from any bearing supplier. Otherwise if you need a complete tensioner pulley you'll most likely have to get it from Toyota. Not much in the way of aftermarket pulleys for the 13BT.

OK, turns out the bearings have completely smashed and the pulley was "hanging" in place.
TOYOTA says NO, so im trying to figure something out.

Wrecker.

Or if the pulley itself looks like it's ok, take the whole thing to a bearing supplier and see if they can do anything with it.

Pic?

Yeah, after further investigation, the pulley is OK, ill see if i can get a replacement bearing. The pulley must be harder than the bracket it mounts upon, because it has dug out a chunk in the bracket!

ill get pic for ya soon
