Hi guys,
I was used to running PULP in my NK, so have tried it in my new NL.
I know that they are designed to run on standard unleaded.
It appears that I am getting better fuel economy on PULP (nearly 10%) but of course PULP is about 10% costlier than standard, so really I am no better off financially.
But are there ANY other benefits (or are there indeed disadvantages) to running the vehicle on PULP.

An engines ignition timing is set based on the burn rate of the fuel. higher octane means slower burn, less volotile, thus needs more ignition lead time(advance) to burn it. engines that have higher compression, turbos, etc need higher octane as the standard fuel will self combust causing pinging etc....
There are arguements that premium will be a better fuel, ie less crap, more fuel, which may mean better running engine with less carbon buildup etc.... I don't buy it so much.
However, Premium 98 in WA by BP IS a VERY different fuel to most fuels. It IS environmentally better. A friend of mine is an engineer at BP there and has given me the goss on it, and he is a true believer that is cleaner and better all round; and he is as sceptical as they come.....
So, in summary, I wouldn't bother. We actually always get our fuel from Woolworths fuel and use grocery vouchers for discount, and user regular unleaded. Have not had a problem at all with it.
I however run BP Premium 98 in my racecar, when it runs ....

Have been running my NL on Shell Optimax (using coles vouchers to save 4c per ltr) for last 6 mths. Summary;
Better economy - marginal at best.
Increased power - don't think so.
Worth extra expense - probably not.
Must admit that engine seems slightly more responsive, but again is only marginal. Any improvement seemed more noticible with BP Ultimate, but BP don't have 4cpl savings like Shell & Safeway.
With the current price of 'motion lotion', I'll be going back to regular ULP, or at best run a 'shandy' mix.
