G'day all just chassing some info for a mate regarding aircon set up on an 81 model lux with an 18r motor! Any help would be appreciated and also looking for the set up also.
What will fit and if anyone may have the brackets compressor etc? Literally every thing in the engine bay to the fire wall!
Cheers Mick

celicas and coronas around that era might be the go, should be able to use factory brackets from the engine (lots had the 18R fitted) dunno how you would go with the internal stuff though......

you can fit every thing out of a corona with the 18r or use the celica parts as well
some mods to be done to make bits fit but the compresor will bolt on
make sure the evaporator is flushed before use as any crap in there will destroy the pump

i did this conversion a few years ago to my 80 model
the under dash bit is diferent to any other model as it is a draw thru instead of blow thru evaporator
only other thing to watch is the compressor mounting as some of the after market mountings can interfer with the battery in the huilux

Thanks heaps I'll let him know as aparently he has gotten a latermodel dash so will let him know about the evaporator etc and not to use 20r motor parts. Cheers Mickthrashlux wrote: 20 r is no good u need one from an 18r the head has half of the mounting points

aircon
Ive fitted air to my 81 model 3 months ago. I used all standard under dash unit from an 81ln46, as far as I no I havent seen any early petrols fitted with air only deisels. mine is a 5 litre but I made a bracket to fit the original pump, the pump was shagged but a vh 6 cylinder pump is almost identical to the original, the largest problem to contend with is all the fittings are the old JIC style tappered fittings not o-rings so there is not to much gear that is compatible. I also no of another under dash unit at a wreckers near my place he wants about 150 for it
cheers

im running the original condenser in front of a four core radiator, but because the original system was r12 gas they never had an electric fan, now I have twin twelve inch fans in front of the condenser but no engine fan. Running decent fans infront of the condenser meens the grill has to go. I'll take a few pics of the setup and post em up.
