Looks like the power stearing pump has died. First I thought it was just the belt cut down to half width not having enough pressure to drive however after checking bearings etc I found the pump pully and shaft slide towards the fan. Can it be fixed or would is it common for the shaft to snap or something inside?
Do I throw away and spend big $$$$ on a new or second handy?

They are not rebuidable, mine did exactly the same replaced the belt and it shredded straight away- wasted $30. bought a new pump from the UK for $110 and belt for $12 and had it airfreighted to me at work for nix.

Yep the keyway had exploded inside, found a new 1 for $265 couldnt wait needed it same day. almost shred the new belt too. the tension pully was making the belt run off course. had to cut one of the v runs off because it got damaged! hmmm.

If it is just the bearings that are shot then they can be rebuilt. But it is not that straightforward and the number of Discos being scrapped in the UK at the mo its possible to pick one up for peanuts. Perhaps I should start freighting spares to Australia! ;)

Its a waste putting a 2nd hand ps pump on when they are only 50 odd pounds new, i bought stuff from Island 4x4 in Kent and although i got free freight thru work, what they quoted was pretty reasonable.
