Warn 8274 Highmount Brake Circlip.

Post by ToNkA »

This was mentioned in one of the earlier highmount threads but wanted to ask this question.

On Saturday I was winching and instantly the circlip holding the brake mechanism on the winch poped off allowing the brake assembly to move away from the winch (and stop working properly).

1. Why would this circlip come off? (I have read it does happen, but why?)
2. I read you can not use the circlip and drill and tap a thread into the centre of the shaft and use a bolt. Anyone done this? Anything I need to look out for, or is it straight forward procedure?
3. S.G. Leslie think, are the people who do this, but if its simple I will do it at work. Anyone have their phone number, or anyones which do this kind of thing?

Cheers
