Rear bearing kits - Where to buy????

Post by jtraf »

Was taking the pede's off on the weekend and noticed back right axle seal was leaking.....also while driving back left wheel has a squeaking/rubbing sound coming from it occassionally...

Having just replaced fron bearings it may be a good time to redo the back berings and seals on the GQ Patrol.

Now I have done a ring around this morning and gotten

Bearing wholesale $144 + GST per side
Repco $ 126 inc GST per side
Busons $242.60 inc GST per side

Is there anywhere else I can try or is repco the cheapest place to buy in Melbourne?? This is kit price to suite disk rear end GQ

cheers

gday i got my set of rear wheel bearin kits for $92 each side brand is skf and i got them from repco. have fun doing them yourself i needed to make a special tool it was a 2 1/4 socket that i sliced the drive off and bored a hole in it and mounted the drive off the side so you can slide the socket over the axle and undo and do up the bearing retaining nut its tension spec is 450nm, also it took 15 tonne on the press to remove the old bearings and about 10 tonne to fit the new ones but olther than all that it went reasonable well. if you need any help i should be able to give u some tips

i got mine off ebay they where ntn bearings, but $126ea sounds extremly cheap, i was quoted $450 trade from repco 12mths ago, are you sure you got a price on the rears? unless you have a big press dont bother trying to fit thm yourself

mine where the rears and as i said they are a prick to do, a friend gave his to a auto shop to do and they said nah cant do them to hard, if you have a press and a few pieces of steel to press the bearings out u should be fine, i used the outter bearing races and machined them slightly to press the new bearings in worked well. the hardest thing is that big retaining nut to do it up. good luck with it though

$195 each side for new bearings & second hand axle complete all done ready to slip in. From patrol apart in melbourne. This is the option I'm choosing when funds allow as no one around where i'm at wants to do em.

I think you misread the post. It's a complete axle. I am sure they would put in new seals when they put in new bearings. ;)
