transfer reduction
Has the hilux gear transfer case got a lower ratio than the chain case ??or is it the same . Or can you buy gears for the transfer case that lowers the ratio in high 4 as well as low 4 , or do all the gear sets only cater for low range .
There is a slight change in high range and also in reverse for the gear driven only!toyrex wrote:chain drive is lower
geardrive t case 2.26
chaindrive t case 2..5
Low gears only on low range

4sum4, I've read this 10 times and i have no idea what you are saying!
High range is 1:1 and doesn't change with low range gears.
I have Marks gearmaster gears, 3.74 in low range

Rock hoppers do not give a reduction in High Range in a Hilux Transfer case. It is not possible as High range runs straight out the back of the transfer there is no gear set to reduce through. High range in a hilux Transfer no mater what hilux transfer you use is 1:1. You can add any low range reduction set you like but the High range remains at 1:1.

That is true of some transfer cases ie landcruiser but not a hilux one.
AS for details NFI ask someone smart

it makes no more sense in a patrol transfer than in a hilux - they drive straight through like a hilux in high range.
if anyone is claiming any ratio change in high range in a straight through high range transfer case, it's a case of "marketing", that is, a "lie"

Yeah I understand what your saying but it feals like there is a reduction in high range and in reverse like before i got them fitted I could hardly take off in high range with 35" tyres and now I can take off in high range with 36" tyres

Because they are the lower, low range gearset (68%)
To tell the truth, with the 4 speed it is not too bad on the road. Runs about 2400 rpm @ 100kph.
The 4.1s and the V8 push the 38s along quite nicely. In fact it launches quite hard for a big rig

if you have the lower low range gearset then you have 8% UNDERdrive in high range; launch and be happy.
the overdrive high range gears have the higher low range.
