Just posting a few questions on the behalf of a friend. He is looking at replacing the tired 13BT engine in his 70 Series FRP top with a 1HZ engine that already has a 1HD-T turbo and injector pump on it. 1HZ has done 200,000 kms, but only 10,000 of that with the new turbo and injector pump. Will roll in a new set of bearings, new injector needles and reco the inj pump as a matter of course if we go ahead.
Just curious to know if anyone has already done this swap? Are there any pitfalls to watch out for? And what sort of performance can he realistically expect to achieve??
Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers
Mitch

1HZ with 1HD-T turbo and pump

Update on this. To answer my own question.....the 1HZ swap is a piece of cake. Took us 12 hours to remove both engines and gearboxes from the vehicles, swap them over and have them both running again.
Is a matter of cutting off the engine mounts and re-welding them in correct position. Transfer over the clutch slave cylinder, and all fuel lines / sender / tank as the 1HZ has larger fuel lines, and different sender.
Hope that helps anyone that may be thinking of doing the swap.

rad, so you transfered the gearbox and transfer case from the 1hz motor aswell?
Yep, we sure did. The gearbox from the 1HZ truck had recently been rebuilt, while the one from the 13BT was getting very tired so it made sense at the time. Will have to pull the new box out again to swap the crawler gears in. We run out of time on Friday night, as we wanted to use it on Saturday.
Has yet to be fully tuned, but it seems a very worthwhile swap to do. Is more responsive across a bigger rev range....but haven't dynoed it to get actual figures yet. Maybe next weekend....although have a clutch to replace in a GQ!
