GQ 4.2 TD breaking down up in revs

Post by RIZZO »

have a 4.2 turbo diesel gq, running 10lb, has been tuned for boost , has been always serviced, but i'm having problems now and again around 3000 3500 revs it feels like it runs outa fuel for couple of seconds, mildly dies then its right again, my gu 4.2td use to do this as well, could it be this little internal filter guaze in the injector pump, fuel filter is fine, no water in fuel, anythin like that, any ideas,? cheers

My N/A has done the same thing ever since i bought it, i changed the filter, checked for air/leaks and replaced the little thimble filter.

None of the above worked, the pump it's self was only 70k old from brand spanking nissan new as the previous owner for some reason got the original replaced.

I pulled up short on fitting an electric pump as a helper possibly even a surge tank although I am sure this is where the problem lies, it's not so bad and it's not very often I am at those revs in the way need to reproduce it.

Could be wear in the pump itself with that many Kms on it.
The housing gets wear in it for the advance part and this can cause that problem you are seeing (thats according to the Westend who did my pump)
Yours could also be a bit worn on the fuel lift pump too.

However, have you tried changing the fuel filter? Maybe its too restrictive for fuel flow.

Try fitting a 12v lift pump, pretty common miss on turbo 4.2 fitting it seems to make it go away.

May or may not be the actual cause of your miss though.
