105series hubs on 80series diffs??
I am considering swapping 80series diffs into a 105series cruiser.
Main reasons being the 80s diffs are fitted with Toyota lockers and modified for the lift I want to run.
I want to keep the 105seriess hubs and wheels and larger brakes.
Are there any issues in swapping the front and rear hubs from one to the other.
I know 105s have larger dowels and 10mm studs.
Are axle lengths and CVs etc the same?
I beleive 105s have slightly wider track, is this due to different offset in the hubs? or is the housing a different length?

Heres a link to a thread I started when I swapped from 80 to 105, I had been hoping to swap the diff centres, didn't end up doing it.

80 and 105 housings are thesame width.
Hubs give the wider track but only on the front. (rear stays thesame as 80)
Splines on c/v and rear axles are different 80 to 100, you can fit 100 front hubs to 80 c/v with 78/79 free wheeling hubs, or use the 105 c/v and drive flange. All else bolts on.
With the rear, you are in trouble....the short 80 axle is special splined for locker, the dowels are bigger on 105 but also bigger circle diameter and axle flange diameter....your best option is to use 80 rear hub drilled to 5 stud.....personally, i would (and have in the past) piss off the electric locker and run 105 arb in the rear, then everything swaps straight into your rear housing, and the locker is instant.

Confucious say...man who argue with idiot, worserer himself
I put 4.3 105 guts in my 80 sahara, left the front electric and used arb up back The actual axles 80 and 105 are identical in the front. The rear 105 axles are stronger up back...the cost of the arb can be offset by selling the 80 locker.80's_delirious wrote:cheers Andrew.
Are CV splines different (105 to 80) on both the axle end and drive flange end?
want to use the factory lockers from the 80, its doing my head in figuring out simplest way to go about it.
Would have liked to keep the 4.3 ratios, but looks like no can do

interesting
what did you need to do to be able to use the factory locker in the front? Is the 105 crown wheel able to be fitted to the 80 front centre?
My understanding is the 105 crown wheel has different bolt pattern so swapping 105 crown wheel to the 80 centre is not possible. Is this only true for the rear?

leave me out of it, I don't break thingsdow50r wrote:The other thing to mention here is short 80 locker axle is hard to find, easy to break, usually on the spline in the diff, which makes it almost impossible to get out.... locker is slow to lock in......just ask busted100
