Surf 2.4 TD in 85 lux.

Post by GeeUte »

Looking at buying an 85 model lux with Surf 2.4 TD running gear in it.

Works well but it is not mod plated.

What else needs to be done to keep it legal ? Brakes etc.

I know they did come out like this in the Surfs but not the Hi Lux's. Any advice is appreciated.

Cheers.

Didn't the surfs of this vintage come from factory with the 2.4TD or was that the later model Surfs ?

Im hoping / trying to get around not having to mod plate it as I move around a fair bit and dont want the dramas of re engineering when I move to another state.

If it wasn't a factory turbo originally (which those model Hiluxes weren't) then it will need a mod plate. It is the same as putting a V8 into a factory 6 commodore/falcon , even though that model may have come out optioned with an 8 it still needs a mod plate.

Hey Guys,
Thought Id Just update you'se.

I have finished the conversion of a 2L-TE out a 91 surf into my 85 dual cab lux.

ran into problems with the ecu and wiring loom. so converted to a mechanical injector pump.

Just got it engineered, so with the modplate It got registered yesturday..

Will upload some pictures later tonight.

Grant..

Now I a few bit of parts left over I have to sell... lol

Surfs of that vintage ran the first gen 2L-T mechanically injected jobby. 89 was when the 2LT-II came out shortly followed by an EFI version 2LT-E in 91.

The second gen 2LT-II is the one to look for as it has a better designed turbo and far more efficient head. 2LT-E can be a can of worms but if ur willing to sift thru the ECU and wiring it will go far better.
