Was wondering, I have a narrow track DX so I dont have power steering. Does anyone esle have the front diff welded without power steering? How much heavier would it make the steering? Should I consider it or not based on this? Suspensions been done, although needs some TLC at the mo (grease etc)
Murray - the Ferwoaza looks great with the body lift, as does Andy's (WA). Andrew - yours is an absolute beast.

Locked Front diff

Heya mate, hmmm...to be honest I'm not sure I'd want my front diff welded without the power steering...would be a fair bit of fun I'm thinking.
If you can wait a bit, may be worth putting a post on the Warfs list to Leon (in sydney) asking about the aftermarket powersteering he just added to his Feroza (very similar model to yours I think)...then I'd say go for the weld

I asked a couple of diff mechanics if they could weld my front diff, and none of them wanted to touch the car!
They gave me the usual the steering will be to heavy, car will want to go straight all the time. One bloke even said it will also affect the on road steering.
My question is, how can the on road steering be affected when you have it shifted on 2wd and the hubs turned to free?

In 2wd, with hubs unlocked, you wont know your diff is locked. Actually, even with hubs locked, it isnt a problem. It isnt till you engauge 4wd and apply power that steering becomes affected. Although, I suspect thats a trait of the Detriot Lockers, they easily release to turn with no power applied to them. With power applied, they lock up tight. And another thing thats good about the Detriots, they're legal. Not sure about the legality of welded diffs in Qld.
