GME TX610 UHF hand held

Post by murcod »

Am looking at buying the GME TX610 over a Uniden 041- is it a good radio?

It'll mainly be getting used for comms when out driving with other people.

I have a couple of TX610 I have used a few times out wheeling.

They seem pretty good, I've now changed to a TX3200 and use it mostly.

I still use the TX610 when hunting and out walking.

Coverage is ok until you come across a mountain.

That would mean I'd have to buy a bull bar too..... it's not going to happen!

Tibbs thanks for the info.

As long as the the TX610 is better than the Digitalks I've used before then I'll be happy. :D (PS. the Digitalks have a very impressive range for the money.)

I was offered a digitalk from jaycar for $10 :-)

Do you need a bullbar for the antenna? I just drilled thourgh my bumper bar, while waiting 6 weeks for my ARB Bullbar to be made.

Apparently no 4WD is complete without one!?

Lucky I only drive a pretend 4wd. :D

I'll be trying out the TX610 on Sunday, so will post up what I think after that.

For anyone looking at buying them Prestige have them online including shipping and rechargeable batteries for only $88! (RRP is $132 with no batteries.)

Just an update - I used the TX610 last weekend and am a bit disappointed with the sound level out of it. Even on the highest volume level I had trouble hearing the other guys while I was driving...

Strange, I can drive on the highway at 110km/h and still hear ok.

I know, Turn up your hearing aid .....

It's a shame your not happy with it, You could always try and take it back.

Yes I was going to do that...... but....... because it wasn't loud enough I ended up having it sitting on the seat between my legs while driving, and I forgot about it when I got home in the dark. Result was it came tumbling out of the Feroza onto the concrete driveway when I got out- bit hard to return it with marks on the plastic case.

Yeah that makes it abit hard.

You could always get the headset for it or external speaker.

Still, a lot of effort for something you just purchased.

Take it back and see what they say.

You could take it back and say that when you opened it you think it's second hand because it has marks on it and isn't very loud. Maybe it was a returned item before you purchased it. :-)
