iv got some noises coming from my gearbox and transfer. just wondering how hard are they to rebuild and whether its a good idea to do reduction gears at the same time,

easy enough to do if you are handy with the tools i would go the gears while your at it.
they can be tricky getting them back together.
have a large clean workbench to lay it all out on in order and a workshop manual to show all the parts in order.

If you buy a gear set it usually comes with all the gaskets and a few main bearings as well which will save you a fair bit of money anyway, and they come with good step by step instructions so as long as you have the tools anyone can do it.
But just check the bearing prices before you start as its an expensive process.
