cordial as brake fluid

today i used cordial as brake fluid it worked for a few hours then it just locked up haha so dont do it

Awesome, but you're probably going to need to ask for overtime so you can afford to replace every seal in the system. Yes that's master cylinder, calipers and wheel cylinders. Very much doubt a flush alone will cut it. Thanks for the laugh though.

Is there any real reason why other fluids (not water or cordial!) wouldn't work? ATF is a hydraulic oil isn't it? Any fluid with a high boiling point should work shouldn't it?

This question is asked out of curiosity, I would never run anything but brake fluid.

technically you could use any fluid as fluid is not compressable. BUT the operating temp of the brakes is quite high so it would need to have a high boiling point. If you use something that has water in it, the water will boil causing steam and giving a spongy pedal.

Something like ATF could be used as a get out of jail card, But i wouldnt recommend it. Ide say that it would kill all the seals in the system. I think you would be better off with a hydraulic oil if anything

The sugar has prob reacted with the glycol.. eeeerr sticky.

Good luck in cleaning it out, hot water , dry , prob new seals as they may of swelled up, etc etc

haha yer better get if fixed before cruiser park in a few weeks.. nah had to use something and thtas all we had we where up a big hill and the brake fliud tipped to the back of the resiviour so we had to just top it as full as we could bleed them then hook on to another car with a snatchie the other car was hooked onto a tree with a winch winching us both down then it started to rain was pretty hectik.. hope its not to bad but yer there might be a few seals i think

Yes. Although water doesn't have a high boiling point, limping home on it wont do any serious damage to the seals/brake lines etc (obviously you would drain it asap). Stuff like ATF and other fluids non compatible with the seals calls for a full brake system rebuild!! Master cylinder to calipers. Re expensive and very time consuming. Emergency situation use water.

haha yer me mate was gunna piss in the resoviour but i said aww shit i might have to bleed them calipers go find some cordial/water haha just bleeding brakes now they seem to be alright had to disconnect the front brake lines driving home yesterday because the brakes wont letting off when u took your foot off the brake so see how it goes soon

Yep ATF will kill all the seals, mate did it and had to rebuild every brake component on the car.

bloody hell glad i used cordial then.. well i just flushed the whole system and bled it and it seems to be back to working order better check my brake fluid is full before i go on a very steep hill next time
