hey guys my brother is in the process of looking for a SWB coil sprung zook just wondering what is a better buy a late model sierra or a jimny??

Sierra or Jimny?
You have to give us way, way more information than that for us to answer the question.
What is he going to use it for, does he want to modify it, what sort of terrain does he want to drive, how important is road performance.
In short, the Jimny is the nicer car to drive on road.
Both cars have severe limitations off road, but the coil sprung sierra is the harder car to work with if you want off road performance - it has inferior suspension geometry and design and less aftermarket parts availability. Jimnys are also generally power steering equipped, are all EFI and have an available automatic, along with airlockers front and rear, so it's easy to build a very capable car that's still quite nice to drive off road so long as you keep tyre size to about 30". Beyond that and the driveline won't stand up.
The usable tyre size limit on a coil sierra is about 31"
They'll both get spanked off road by a leaf sierra for less $$ and headache.

like steve said - comfort - buy a jimny... offroad, get a sierra..
From what you've described i'd say a jimny with 2" springs, guard chopping at 30" tyres (with WT sierra tcase for reduction gears) would be all you'd need to go just about anywhere... then add a rear air-locker if you start getting stuck more often down the track =)
