Hey guys.
Im looking at getting an exhaust made up for my 99 courier.
My mate has a 2.75 or maybe a 3inch exhaust and it sounds like a crappy hilux.
I really want mine to sound tuffer like a pootrol.
Just wondering if anyone has got an exhaust that sounds alright.
Im thinking of running a 2.5 straight through with a muffler at the back to give it that tuffer noise.
thanks guys

Exhaust on Ford courier 2.5TD
Moderator: Tiny
For a TD you really want it to flow as much as possible to get the most out of the turbo (ie maximize the pressure difference from before the exh turbine to after the turbine). The sound can be deadened by the appropriate choice of muffler/resonator.
Basically the bigger the exhaust pipe (after the turbo) the earlier and quicker the turbo will spool up.
PS: You're never going to get a 2.5litre 4 cyl to sound like a 4.2 litre 6 cyl. "Tuffer" won't do anything when you need it to actually DO something.

hi guys, mine is a 2004 pg, gl twin cab, 2.5 turbo. I was using it foir work with approx 600 kg on all the time and had bad lag and lack of power on take off, especially on hill starts. I ripped the airbox and filter off, and plumbed in a 3" pod filter on a $12 2" - 3" exhaust tip, (to go from the pipe that goes from the airbox to the front of the turbo). I then cut the exhaust off at the base of the dump pipe, and fitted a concentric reducer up to 2.5" and a 2.5" stainless pipe straight through to a hot dog and out the back, sounds pretty alright, maybe a little loud though. As for power the spool has dropped from around 1700rpm standard down to around 1250, massive difference in drivability with load on.
hope this helps

Re: Exhaust on Ford courier 2.5TD
update, now removed the pod set up and gone back to original airbox and filter, soon to fit snorkel. pod didn't filter well enough and caused the turbo to flog it'self out and start passing oil = massive smoke on idle and accelleration. Modifying exhaust again too to get rid of some more noise, seems that everything i want to shoot can hear me coming...
