Nissan GQ Automatic

Post by bubs »

Ok guys, a mate at work is doing an engine conversion in his 1993 GQ LWB Patrol, he currently has a 4.2L Petrol with Automatic.

What we need to know is how does the Nissan Automatic work, is it a stand alone unit or does it have some sort of computer to couple it to the engine or sensors of some sort out side of the gearbox for it to operate.

Also does any one know how much difference there is between the nissan manual and automatic bellhousings for the bolt patterns?

i have just done a conversion with my patrol auto and i have finally figured out how to get the auto to work the way it should first of all you need to keep your throtle position sensor off your old engine and you need to get a tacho interface to make not only tour tacho to work but it also lets your auto go into overdrive. I have photo's of how i have mounted the tps for the moment if you want them also what engine is he putting in if you are putting a engine in with bucket loads of power you need to upgrade the trottle body in the transmision this site tells you all about it
http://www.automatictransmission.com.au ... wsId=10672
The bell housing is different from the manual i got my conversion kit from marks 4wd adapters
http://www.marks4wd.com/
they have everything you need i recommend keeping the auto

why put a 1uz into a patrol? Grimace!

the patrol autos suck behind the patrol motors, let alone that beast.

they ought to bung a manual in for a few hundred $$ and be done with it.

hence the link i supplied above for the valve body uprade it states

The transmission once fitted with the new valve body can easily handle more than twice the power and torque with nice firm shift points even while towing trailers that are of considerable weight. The New Valve Body has also been tested behind large V8 engines including the 6.5 litre Chevy diesel V8, We simply couldn't fault the new Extreme Recalibrated Stage II Valve Body no matter what we did to it ( At time of print the valve body had been tested to 607Hp = 450Kw without failure to the transmission).

I haven't done this as of yet but plan too at the moment my trans runs ok i believe this valve body cost around $795 exchange for old valve body

Hi Guys it's Rodney here from Wholesale Automatic Transmissions. I'm both the designer and builder of the Extreme Valve Bodies and Automatic Transmissions accessories that have been mentioned in these past few posts. I help out where I can on a few message boards as a 4X4 transmission specialist and I am a 4WD enthusiast myself. I receive E-mails all the time inviting me to join in on topics that I can help out with. In this case it's fairly easy as I have dealt with hundreds of transmission that have been at the receiving end of a V8 conversion, Turbo kit or in most cases people that just what there transmission to change nice and firm "But not harsh" with a great deal of reliability. We handle everything from Extreme Recalibrated Valve Bodies that greatly improve the way there 4X4 drives, Super Low Stall Kiln Bronzed Convertors when V8 Conversions are done, VDO Oil Temp Gauge Kits complete with wiring loom and sender units that have already been fitted into the cooler unions for a quick and easy fit and new for the Nissan Patrol our Lock-Up Manuel Control Override Relay and Harness that gives you Lock-Up in every gear including 1st and reverse. No more convertor runaway on very steep decents, 100% engine braking.

We are also available on the phone 7 days a week as it is very hard to keep up with every question but we most certainly try our best to help where we can. I will leave you with some links that helps explain all of the above. I do apologize to the moderator of this site straight up as I work with a few message boards and try not to over step the mark, but transmission topics can be very hard to explain with out using photo's and news releases to make easy what is an extremely technical subject. The easiest way to do this to take a look and read the news releases that I have done for Wholesale and get back to me with your questions, Message board or phone call what ever is easiest. Just remember that the message board just takes me a little longer as you can imagine.

Oh! and by the way that factory fitted 4 speed Nissan Patrol transmission is an incredibly well built unit that can handle a great deal of power when things like the Extreme Valve Body is used. We have even used these transmission with great success behind the almighty 6.5 Chevy V8 Turbo Diesel even while owing large caravans.

I apologise once again to the moderator but I have to start somewhere and we have a great deal to offer the Patrol members that have Automatic Transmissions.

Kind regards and look forward to hearing from you all at some stage.

As administrator of this site your info and advise is more than welcome.

Just one question. I dont own a Patrol but im just curious is the 4spd Patrol Auto also known as a Jatco? Similar to that used in VL Turbo's?

Thanks for that! Yes and no to the Jatco. Yes it is a Jatco but no it's not the same transmission that is in the VL Holden (4N71B), It's a MUCH larger transmission altogether (RE4RO3A).

We also have the same range for the Toyota Land Cruisers. Although the Lock-Up Manuel Control Unit needs the Extreme Valve Body for it to work in 1st and reverse (Only The Land Cruiser ). We also now have the Extreme Valve Body for the Toyota 5 Speed Automatic!

Yes we do have a kit for the ZF believe it or not. It's only a mild kit but it makes a difference. I don't see a lot of these so I haven't developed these up to what I would call an Extreme Valve Body yet. I might have to go back and revisit the ZF at some stage I think! The kit I have would cost about $695 including gst and full transmission service.

Yep we did Brain R's Lock-Up Manuel Control Unit. We also fitted him up with the Extreme Valve Body, Temp Gauge Kit, Low Stall Convertor and Full Synthetic transmission oil. Wanted everything I had in the place that guy. I'm booked it to do a talk at the Victorian Nissan Patrol club in a couple of months.
I'm am in and out all the time but mostly in!
