No, as there is no vacuum pump on a petrol alternator.
If you need an alternator, shop around as the price can vary heaps. I got a brand new internally regulated unit for 250.00.
What is wrong with yours? I have found that more often than not it is just the brushes that wear out, so new brushes should get you going again, or spend a few extra dollars and do the bearings also.
