GQ patrol head gasket

Post by nathanshnoz »

hey guys,

just pulled the head off a mates GQ as he blew a head gasket
(its on gas - go figure)
just wondering if you have to replace the head bolts when you put the head back on - i was told at a parts store today that you need to as they are designed to only be tightened once or some crap - is this correct?

cheers,
nath

Well it sort of is correct. They are use once only bolts and is stated so by Nissan. When I did mine, I rang every closeish dealer to me to get some and they all said they don't stock them because they don't use new ones on any customer's TB42's. They all reuse the old ones. So I did. And it's not like they will fail being used again.

if they are a torque to yeild bolt throw em away but alot of the older cars didnt run this setup and just a normal bolt. although they recommend a one use only they can be reused a fair bit quite safely.
i couldnt tell ya what type a tb42 ones are though.

They are the torque to yield ones. But yet to find anyone who has used new ones even on turbo applications. So can assume safe to reuse.
