Does the weather effect wheeling or not?

Seeing it's going to be around 11/12 degrees this weekend (Melb) i was wondering if people take into account how cold/wet it would be on their day out.. I was going to go out and about this Sunday, but i've decided it'll be to cold/wet if something happens and my wife and daughter need to get out of the vehicle for an extended amount of time. I'm such a nice guy..

i guess it also depends on how good your vehicle and ability is. Being the fact that it has rained a fair bit in Melbourne over the last week or so and i have a stock vehicle i probably wouldnt i guess.

Same temp doesn't really bother me, but I think being unlocked with the rain thats been around good chance I would cut the tracks up wheel spinning. Getting stuck doesn't phase me, just figure we all have to be a little more reasposible about track damage now days.

Weather is no consideration for me at all. On some weekend trips up to the high country, I will wait out until its the coldest weather possible to get a bit of snow and blizzard action. Good fun!!!

Its all about having the right gear and being prepared. If I had kids to worry about then it would be different I'd imagine.

cold isn't the issue when wheeling as the concentration warms u up, it the slippery tracks that can be hard when wet, mmm...i need lockers

What I like about cold wet days is - I can't get roped into mowing the lawn etc so I'm more likely to be able to have some fun.......

Agreed, mud is good. But, it's not much fun if you have to did yourself out of trouble and it's pouring :( Luckily this hasen't happened yet, this is purely hypothetical.

The weather really doesn’t matter to me, and I have to say that I prefer it when it rains, even to the extent to where you bogged down to the door fames or more :cool:

. To me it makes the experience all the more enjoyable. Sounds crazy, but when you get home completely buggered and someone asks you how the trip went, you can smile and laugh. :cool:

The weather is what makes it !!!!

most diverse conditions was a 3 years ago ......
we went from a winter run in the Otways to a Little Desert run all on the same w/end ..... cold n wet to hot n dusty all in 24 hours!!!!
Mind you the night time temp up north was colder than down here !

The cold and wet makes our usual tracks 10 times more challenging in winter, who could miss out on that sort of fun just because of the cold when all ya have to do is rug up 4 starters, take a spare set of clothes, and turn the heater up flat out !!! .... ( I also cheat ... I get a winch biatch !! )

Up here in the SUNSHINE STATE the weather doesn't really matter, it's either warm with wet/muddy tracks, or it's warm with dry/dusty tracks. Or we're driving up our hot sandy beaches.....QLD Beautiful one day.......... :armsup:

Wet = slippery = more gas needed = more fun. Don`t matter if its a long clay hill with or without ruts (but with is better) or rocks.

But I hate mud holes and drive around them if possible as the grit etc just farks things like bearings, seals and brakes etc etc etc etc.

The weather doesnt bother me much, but bugger me if im gonna be stuck in a car in summer when its frickin 35 - 40 degrees. Also the fact that I cant remember what rain looks like cuz we havent had it in ages means there aint much mud

well considering the melb weather at moment, gale force winds and shit, that stinks, wet, windy, cold etc, and then contend with trees falling down and shit... and if you have no chainsaw, your fubar :rofl:

Wont mention names, but was talking to a bloke the other night on Yahoo, his mate was killed by a falling tree while out 4wding... It took emergency workers 5+ hours to get to them, with over 100 trees fallen to be removed before they could get there, then about the same amount of trees to remove to get out... Could you imagine sitting there in a situation like that? :cry:

Have read about springs(especially longer aftermarket ones) breaking in sub-zero conditions. Apparently they aren't designed to be stressed a such low temps. Anyone who drives in these temperatures every had this kind of problem??

My mistake, thought it was -10 C not F. But the question remains, anyone ever suffered parts failure because it was too cold??

he is in alaska, they would be used to sub 0 temps, things could be made to different spec for that

when it hits -50 to - 70 f then things start to break.i have been out riding snowmobiles at -55 below 0 before and ride all the time at -10 to -20 f.you just have to go prepared for the cold and watch what you are doing.cold will kill you faster than heat.now if i had to deal with the heat you have i would never leave the house-WAY to hot.it is 70-75 f here now and it sucks. check www.snowest.com for the type of riding we do.
