what play tyres 4 81 lux?

Post by bear »

I have a 1981 hilux LN 46 with standard suspension. What would be the max size width and height b4 I have to change anything. My suspension has been tweeked and does travel quite well.
I have been looking at mongrel etc type tyres. 33x10.5x15?
35x12.5x15? Please help as the wife has me on a budget and I have to get it right 1st time.
Thanks guys :D

im just guessing for that era of lux, but i would say 31's would be the biggest with stock springs! 33's will work with 2" spring lift, but will scrub the inner guard a little.
As i said, not 100% on that year model, so wait and see what some of the other guys have to say.....

you wont get 35s in without alot of cutting, best bet would be some 31's

On my 81model RN 46 lux I was running 31X10.5X15's Kuhmo Powergaurds and they were fine any larger and they will rub on inside of gaurds when turning. also 81 model hiluxes didnt have very powerful motors so if you go too large witout modifying the engines the tyres will pull too much out of the engines power. :bad-words:

Go for a 32x11.5 mud tyre of some sort (MTR are good)
Should fit easilly.
Or if you are willing to hammer (and possibly cut) go for a 33x12.5.
