hilux rear suspension

hey guys, i have a 94 dual cab sr5 with the independent front end and im fairly happy with the car for just a daily driver and bit of fun on the weekend but the rear end works like shit, i know that its leaf sprung and ifs front and yes they dont flex well in the front but i know u can do a bit to the rear to make it work alot better. So what i want to know is are the rear leafs out of a newer model lux longer then my model cause i have been told of a few people that they are and buy using them and a set of extended shakles would give me a fair bit extra of are they just the same length and will do nothing. if so i guess ill just buy a new set of leafs. if it helps my leafs eye to eye 1295mm so if anyone has any measurments they can give me or some advice. thanks

people put ifs rears in to solid axle luxs n run longer shackles cause there springs are smaller, i think all ifs lux are the same, u could lay ur shocks over like a frame / \ n take a few leaves out, or u could get falcon rear springs and move ur front spring hanger forwarf n run longer shackles or u might not have to move the spring hanger, it could be the comparison to going ifs rears for a solid front lux

Yeah that's what I was thinking banks. I just didn't know if the newer model model ifs Luxs had longer leafs. Otherwise I might have to just look into relocating the rear hanger mounts.

All the inderpendent front hiluxs rear leaf are the same from 8/1988 to 3/ 2005 when the vego model was relesed. So your car has the rear leafs that others are trying to get.

just take leaves out if your not use it with heavy loads you can take out 2 or 3 leaves take out 1 of the load springs
that will soft it a bit

Depending on how handy you are with the welder and drill etc You can use springs out of a later model lux like 05 onwards and longer shackles and achieve the same effect as ifs rears that the earlier models do.

Standard toyota ones will flex pretty good and if you get some longer shackels they should fit without too many dramas. Then you only need longer shocks. You can put them in a /\ configuration if you want but if your all about keeping it simple and cheap just get the longest rancho 5000 you can get ( they are about 95 each) pop them on the normal mounts. Huge gains for little money. Only drama that might pop up is where the diff sits compared to the wheel archs, Might require you to move the front spring hanger up the chassis to keep your wheels in the correct spot, Sounds like a big job but its not really that difficult. Just have to check out the brake line length as its probably gonna be a bit short.

As was said pull some leaves out, or just buy a aftermarket set of leaf packs that are softer or just the mains, they'll work better, dont need ext shackles, longer spring = more of the comp spec articulation vs a shorter leaf with same spring rate, although a softer std ifs length pack is easy, will work better, not illegal and arent an overrated set of parabolics haha, ifs mains are what 10-12mm thick IMO no good.

thanx for the replies guys. i am handy enough with the welder, i am a trade qualified panel beater and i have spent a stack of time building truck chassis and bodies but i dont want to go hacking up a really quality truck so thats why im looking for an easier way. my bro in law works at arb newcastle and has put me onto some ome leafs that his mate had in his ifs lux and they said they worked unbeleivably so ill see how that goes

I guess he has never seen or heard of Trail Gear stuff if he thinks the OME works "unbelieveably".

the boys at newcastle arb know they're shit mate.ive been out with a few of them and theyve built some quality rigs.
