I need some help. My 4runner is vibrating really bad. The faster I go the worse it gets, but it only vibrates when I have my foot on the gas.

I have checked all the engine mounts, transfer case mount on the cross member and the uni's seem to be fine.

I did slam the cross member down on a rock a couple weeks ago, but I only noticed this vibrating a week ago and it has been getting worse over the past week.

Help me please!!!

Doeas the vibration appear to show through the steering wheel or is it more seat of the pants.

If its through the steering check for front end or wheel problems if its seat of pants check for drivline problems.

My choice would be that you have either a seized or stuffed universal joint.don't just get under and feel the joints for play.Take the shafts out and check to see if the unis move freely as well as haveing no freeplay.

Dont sit on the washing machine when the spin cycle is on.

And check those unis, my guess is its one of them, or maybe even a bent tailshaft.

I am going with that. But I don't want to go get a new x member because I have to get a new one when I put in my dual cases in a couple of weeks.

It is coming from underneath for sure.

Check your exhaust :) Recently one of the rubber mounts for my exhaust gave way and now part of the system fouls the underbody

It vibrates like a mofo but only when my foot is on the gas ;)

I'll second this because i've had it happen before, the uni joint wont seem worn untill you remove the rear tailshaft from the car and then check the uni's for play or if there seized, why your there check your g-box and pinion flanges for play as well ..

does you tailshaft have a centre bearing ??(1 piece or 2 piece ?)
if so then that could be flogged out too.....good luck

Could it be a pinion bearing???Mine was very cranky when I got off the pedal though.

I have found that a quick "finger test" will sort this out ... as the truck is still being driven .. after a short run feel the uni joint .. if it is warm or hot .. bingo thats ya stuffed one ..
