Buying A GQ Need Help

Post by fiil89 »

Hey guys,
I've been looking all over lately for a good 4x4 with a good base to do some extra activities with the mateys/lady's. I've been told to go with a Patrol 4.2 D. I've looked all over the site and seen that there are alot of people who are turbo'ing these NA motor's.

I was wondering how that went ? i.e reliability issues once it was turbo'ed etc.

I called a few places and was given some expensive sounding quotes, to have everything done properly apparently close to 10k.

I have 2 options a 5SP man 4.2D 288,000km on the clock for around about 7000 with extra parts included i.e motor, gearbox etc from a unrepairable write off. Or option 2 : 4.2D Auto 188,000 for $5,500. now obviously both these cars are going to require some aftermarket work / mods to get it where i want but being an auto I was thinking that I may be putting TOO much on my plate, apparently a xfer from auto / man = $3500, installed. Then add on turbo kit $1900 WITHOUT injectors or injector pump.

Really I dont know whats the best thing to do and whether or not parts are common enough that I dont really have to deal with high charging wreckers. Ta
