Hi,
has anyone wired into the Aircon thermo fan on GU Patrol? The reason I ask is I had a thought that if i could wired into this thermo and run a manual override switch inside cab. I can then switch it on when temperature starts to climb near top of a range for instance. and see if it helps cool water.
Any thoughts!
Cheers David

Airconditioning Thermo fan auto electrical question
Airconditioning Thermo fan auto electrical question
Nissan Patrol GU, Wagon
I'm running full electric thermos on my car so I haven't actually played with that fan at all but I can give you the basics for how to hook it up.
Firstly get your self a test light (should be about $5 from super cheap) and you need to check if it is switched on the positive or earth side. To do this connect the clip on the test light to the an earth point (any metal on the car) and stab the point into each of the wires with the car on but the aircon off, preferably while the car is still cold incase it does come on automatically when the car gets hot. Check if the test light lights up on either of the wires it means its negatively switched. If it doesn't turn on the ac and check again, the fan should come on and the light should light up on one of the wires. This is means its positively switched.
So depending on what it is postively switched or earth switched you need to set up one of the following circuits.
You need a relay, probably 20-30amp, and a fuse of the same rating, you can buy a relay with an inbuilt fuse holder, but I prefer to use circuit breakers instead as they can't corrode.
Positively switched
+ Battery--fuse---Relay--------Positive wire of fan
.............................|
.............................|
..........................switch--------accessories wire under dash
Ignore the ...s
On the relay the big pins go to the battery/fuse and positive wire of fan, the little pins go to earth and the switch.
Earth switched
Negative wire of fan-----Relay--------Earth or negative
.....................................|
.....................................|
.................................switch--------accessories wire under dash
ignore the ...s
On the relay the big pins go to the negative wire of fan and earth or negative terminal of the battery and the little pins go to earth and the switch.
That circuit will make the fan go on when ever the car is on accessories and the switch is on, or the aircon is on.

hey mate got a switch put into the dash to manually engage the condensor fan.. i use it when in traffic/all low speed 4wding/ when coming off the highway etc..
i dont no how much it helps but i figure its better off pulling in air than sitting there doing nothing. i dont run the A/C much, i like windows down...
