can a dumpvalve work on a 12HT ???
So i'm heading down the road this morning in my missus Hyundai ( my 75 ute is currently under the knife and having a list of work including a fully rebuilt 12HT) and was passed by this GQ patrol ( eek ) going full noise. When he changed gears i heard the nicest, meanest sound ( not the gay sneeze from a riceburner) hard to explain but it was definatly dumping boost from something???????? please explain people and can it be made from my 12HT?????????
It was a TD 42 oiler...... Gee some people annoy me with the whole "cant drive a diesel hard cos its a diesel and you will look like a dick"
What a crock of shit, the last 4 trucks i have owned have had nothing less than 146hp at 4 wheels and 607nm of torque ( that was a 2.8 3L hilux by the way) that's more hp and torque than most petrols ive seen in the majority of 4X4's getting around. it don't matter petrol or diesel it still can be tuned to whatever you want to get out of it. i have a mate with a dodge ram with over 500 hp at the wheels and guess what??????? it's a diesel and ive personally seen it blow the dooors off a XR6 turbo running a bigger intercooler, injectors and 12 psi boost. The 12HT that ive had built will be pushing over 800 nm if the facts are right and around the 150-180 hp at 4 wheels. Those numbers right there blow the doors off your racing heritage bullshit. all i wanna know is if anyone has put a boost release valve on a 12HT..

Mine vents boost on gear change and it sounds exactly like that.
Kind of like a BOV. But without the BOV .
A straight through exhaust with no mufflers and a bit of boost is all that is done to mine.
Today was the first time ive heard it from outside the truck, my mate took it for a drive down the road after we played with the front end and i have to admit....it sounds awesome (accually sounds like a truck)

Now that's what i wanted to hear, ive never had any of mine do it but i'll be running around 16-18 psi through a modified CT26, Topmount intercooler, 3.5 inch dump and 3 inch mandrel system running no muffler.brendan rooke wrote:Mine vents boost on gear change and it sounds exactly like that.

oh and almost 3 grand worth of injector pump tricks
jimmy087 wrote:yeh maybe what brendan said is what you heard if you are 100% certain it was a diesel, it may have had a REAL engine in it like an rb 30? i love those engines
hahaha It was a ute and if it was a REAL engine as you say it must of been crook coz she was blowin some soot i can tell ya.
cheers jimmy team oh deere 2010

By the sounds of that, you'll have no worries finding the sound your chasing.
Mine is a stock 12ht with a beaudesert ceramic coated 3" dump with a mild steel straight through ( i mean straight through, it doesnt have any bends as it goes through where the spare used to be), Its now running 14 Pound boost and it sounds awesome under throttle and sounds like a bov between gear changes.
Now im no ricer, I did have a few rotors in my day but they were N/A.
I personally dont go much on the sound of a bov but this thing sounds cool

they are in vic, I'm originally from tassie and my dad used to have some log trucks over there (old school V8 Mack superliners) and he had them pushing out over 700 hp and this guy done his pumps for him, don't really know what he does but he has been doing it a long time hey. The only thing he does recomend though is that you put a set of decent pistons in (i am running Armourlite pistons) ive never had many of what people on here call tuff trucks but ive had some really tuff engines and this guy has done all my pumps and a few of my mates. The key to power in a diesel is the pump, you can boost to high heavan but if your fuel aint spot on then your wastin your time, also i seen you said you were running 14psi. what is your pyrometer reading at that, try not to let them get over the 550 degree mark hey with standard pistons. You should look into intercooling as on my last rig i could run 18psi instead of 14 and i dropped 80 degrees just from my intercooler.

Good old superliners hey,
My old man had a f700 maxidyne in the early 70's pulling triples in the teritory. They dont make them like that no more. 237 hp and 3 trailers....hino rigids have more than that these days
When wasi growing up we had the old Kenworth cabover with a screaming 8V92ta. Loved sitting in that thing from Cairns to Sydney every chance i got.
Loved that truck.
Anyways back to it,
On a big hill it reaches 550 on the pyro-meter, im currently looking into intercoolers, very soon, its on the To do list!!!
