g'day, i'm putting what i think is most likely a 75 series 5 speed into my 45.
the problem i've come upon is that i think it has the smaller flange for the front output on the transfer.
centre measurements across the diagonal on the flange are ~85mm and around the 'rectangle' are ~25mm and ~33.5mm.

did (some?) 75's have this size slip yoke in the tailshaft? if i can find the yoke to suit the output flange, i know i can use my standard 45 front shaft (with a spacer), but do they exist in that size or am i dreaming?

i've just spent a few hours at the wreckers looking, but conveniently most tailshafts there didn't have yokes in them anymore. the only thing i did find was a shaf (no yoke) that had the right size hole-pattern to suit my g/box, but it was too short, however it had the same splines as my 45.

i've tried to word that all as simpy as possible. any tips on where i can get the slip yoke i'm chasing??

Why not just swap the flanges on the transfer from a 40/45/47 series split case?

yes, the slip yolks are interchangeable at the splines

You still have to get custom made shafts anyway. Unless you're really confident, you may have to get a pro to do this but the cheapest way is to get a 75 rear shaft and cut the tail end off. Grab your 45 rear and cut the gearbox end off it. Work out the lengths you need and weld the 45 end onto the 75 shaft and the 75 end onto the 45 shaft. Use the 45 shaft in the front and the 75 in the rear. That's how mine was done. Didn't know that about the slip yokes but, might make it a whole lot easier.

thanks for the tips and advice guys...
i actually found out the FZJ 5 speed box was fitted in 90-99 model 75's and had smaller bolt pattern on the front output flange on the transfer (to suit the smaller diff i was told),
whereas the FJ 5 speed box (fitted in pre 90 model 75's) had the larger pattern, matching the 60 series shafts etc.

so my next port of call is to find someone with a second-hand/spare front tailshaft (yoke only?) to suit a post 1990 75 series cruiser and use the slip yoke in my standard 45 front shaft (with a multi-hole 25mm spacer at either end to pick up the extra length required)...if only it was that easy to gain extra length lol!!

The fzj 75 came out in oct 92 so the fj75 continued through past 1990 the fzj 75 run a different gear box to the fj,hj,hzj 75 so not sure if th fzj box has different size flanges to the others As well
but regardless what model 75 series if it's a post 90 it runs a smaller front diff that the 85-89 75 series

yeah GO79, that's what I was tyring to refer to lol, the gearbox in the fzj (i was told from 90 onwards, but it may very well be 92 onwards) has the smaller flange only on the front. (and i think a smaller flange on the diff)

I am also only assuming (again from what i have been told) that the fzj 75's had a 'lighter' front diff...I recall a family friend blowing their front diff to bits in a 2 month old cruiser ute (at the time), but that was years ago and I cant quite recall if that was in the last of the 75's or the first of the 78/79's...But I definitely remember them being raging about the "piss-ant diff in the front of this thing".
